As the importance of environmental sustainability continues to be recognised globally, each of us must make small steps to contribute to the cause. As a thoughtful individual who values both sentimentality and sustainability, you might find yourself wondering what to do with the pile of heartfelt greeting cards that accumulate over time. Fear not! In this blog post, we’ll explore creative and meaningful ways to recycle your greeting cards while reducing waste and spreading sustainability.

Recyclability Check

Before anything, check the back of your greeting cards for the Recycle logo. Our cards are marked with a recycle logo that lets you know the greeting card is 100% recyclable. If it does have the logo, then no worries! You’ve already done your part and you can put it in the recycling bin. If there is no sign that your greeting cards are recyclable, then they should always be deposited correctly or repurposed in the following ways.

Upcycling as Crafts

Instead of throwing away your old greeting cards, utilise them for various craft projects. Cut out beautiful designs, patterns, or heartfelt messages from the cards and use them for scrapbooking, collage art, or even creating handmade gift tags. Attach these charming gift tags to presents or use them as personalised bookmarks for your favourite reads. With a little creativity, you can transform your old cards into unique keepsakes.

Donate to local organisations

Many non-profits and schools repurpose cards for fundraising events, arts and crafts activities, or to send messages of support to those in
need. Consider donating your used greeting cards to organisations like Schools, Day-cares, Disability Support Agencies, Senior Care Facilities, Oosh, and more. Be sure to contact your local organisation before making any donations.

Repurposed as a Postcard

With a little creativity and a few simple steps, you can turn those heartfelt messages into a new card. Start by carefully cutting off the front cover of the greeting card, ensuring it retains the beautiful artwork or design. Flip it over and write your message on the blank side. Place your new card into an envelope, add a stamp and drop it off to your local post office or post box and voila! You’ve just repurposed your beloved greeting card. Not only does this upcycling idea give your cards a new home, but it also reduces waste. So, gather those neglected greeting cards and let them embark on new adventures!
